To Norway
To get to Norway you can choose between two airports:
- Oslo Airport Gardermoen (OSL) is Norway’s main airport. Many airliners travel to Oslo Gardermoen. Visit osl.no for more information. The cheapest way to get to Fredrikstad, is to take the direct bus to Fredrikstad, which you find outside the arrival hall. If you want to go through Oslo, there are trains going from the airport into Oslo Central Station, You can choose between the Airport Express Train which goes every 10. minute every day, (every 20. on Saturday), or the local train which is cheaper. If you choose the local train you can buy a ticket to Fredrikstad even though you want to stay some time in Oslo before going there.
- Moss Airport Rygge is a smaller airport, but it is located closer to Fredrikstad than Gardermoen. Norwegian and Ryanair iare the two and only which flies to and from Rygge. For more information about Moss Airport Rygge, visit their homepage. From this Airport, you can take shuttlebus to the train, which leads you to Fredrikstad. Take the one going opposite direction of Oslo, to Halden.
From Göteborg in Sweden, you can travel directly to Fredrikstad by train. Göteborg is connected with Copenhagen in Denmark, and from there trains leave to the rest of the continent. Check with your local train company.
To Fredrikstad
Train: In Oslo, the capital of Norway, train leave from Oslo Central Station to Fredrikstad. The central station is also connected to Oslo’s busses, metro, taxis, and is in the centrum of Oslo. Cafés, shops and baggage boxes are to be found there.
At the station, you can buy tickets to Fredrikstad at the machines or at the ticket booths. The machines got a english interface, and the staff speaks english well.
Bus: There is also a bus between Oslo and Fredrikstad. The bus station in Oslo is located close to Oslo Central Station, just let the signs lead you.
About travelling in Norway
- Use the cheapest ways of travelling, if you don’t have any other business other places.
- Public Norwegian transport does have a lot of signs with picograms and english text on them. It should not be a problem to get around.
- Usually if you’re under 16 years old, you get a child ticket. Just ask for it, and have passport and/or other identification ready.
- Ask people if you’re unsure! Most of them tells you what to do and were to go.
- Be careful with handbags, pocket books, mobile phones and passport. Make sure you know where you keep all your things.
