Up in the north of Europe, you’ll find a beautiful country called Norway: the second richest country in the world, with an abundance of the oil and snow. In the south-east of Norway, a there is a town called Fredrikstad. The city is divided in a western and an eastern part. The modern city centre is on the westside, and on the east is northern Europe’s best preserved fortified town. Between the two sides of the city, Norway’s longest river, Glomma, flows into the sea.

Our main base is at Gudeberg skole (Gudeberg school), placed near the fortified town, making it a perfect location for the summer camp. Outside there is a big landscape area, and there are a lot of interesting and historical places to see.

About Norway and Norwegians

Norway is said to be the best country to live in, as well as one of the strongest economies in the world. Therefore it is a fairly prosperous country. Geographical it’s placed up in the north, next to Sweden (which hosted Active’s summer camp and congress in 2008) and near Denmark, Finland and Iceland. Internationally Norway hasn’t got to much attention, and turist marketing from Norway often is pictures of the large fjords, mountains, skiing facilities, trolls and such. For foreigners Norway often seems a bit cold, but it can get warm enough in the summer. Often it also is from the North in Norway. Fredrikstad, however, is placed far down south.

Norwegians should be glad to live in the best country in the world, and many are. In the 8th century, the Vikings ruled the country. They went on expeditions and robbed in their own and other countries. It is said that Norwegians still drink like Vikings did. Norwegians speak and write Norwegian, which is related to Swedish and Danish. Traditional Norwegian food can be fish, meat balls, sandwiches and our own, Norwegian pizza called Grandiosa. They only eat one hot meal per day, and sandwiches is often consumed to breakfast, lunch and evening food.

This was just a hand-picked selection about Norway. If you wonder about something, need to know more, got some facts to check or whatever about Norway and/or Norwegians, the support is always there to answer you. Welcome to Norway!
